To date we have raised over £12,000 towards the three charities. The race specific fundraising pages are closed but you can still donate to each of the charities through their websites.
My wife lost both her parents in quick succession. Her dad Stan passed away in Dec 2019 following a long battle against both Parkinsons and Lewy Body Dementia.
It was shortly before Stan passed that I signed up for the 100km race and charities that work in those medical fields are two of the three charities I am supporting:
Parkinsons UK (www.parkinsons.org.uk). Donate at https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/donate.
Alzheimer’s Society (www.alzheimers.org.uk) . Donate at https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/make-a-donation.
The third charity I am supporting is one that has been close to my wife’s heart for many years. In fact, much closer than her heart. She has been one of three trustees of CPS Nepal, a charity that raises 100% of the funds required to operate an orphanage in Kathmandu in Nepal providing a home, schooling, food and a chance in life to 24 children. The work is amazing and being a much smaller charity funds are desperately needed to continue the work. You can read more about the charity at www.cpsnepal.co.uk and you can donate here http://www.cpsnepal.co.uk/donate.html.
Karen sadly also lost her mum Jan in Feb 2020 just 8 weeks later after a relatively short battle against cancer. The Arthur Rank Hospice looked after her during her final days and I will have to take on a separate challenge to raise funds for them!
Watch this space for that one!!
